Hear the National Universities Brass Band this Summer

Updated: Aug 6, 2023

[Please note this is an archive post from 2022]

There are three fantastic opportunities to hear the National Universities Brass Band this summer, and all for free.

The band is made up of participants of the annual UniBrass Band Camp and directed by conductor Dr David Thornton. The band meets for one week of rehearsals, workshops, performances, and socials, and are excited to bring the sound of brass to new audiences this summer.

Chapeltown Village Hall

When? Friday 26th August 2022, 5-6pm (no interval)

What? The first opportunity to hear the NUBB in 2022, at their informal concert in Chapeltown. This short performance will provide a preview of some of the music to come at our course closing concert, and an opportunity for audience and performers to chat about university brass banding and what we do.

How much? Free, not ticketed. Donations welcome.

Buxton Pavilion Gardens

When? Saturday 27th August 2022, 1-2.30pm (with break)

What? The NUBB will present two short entertaining sets, perfect for a sunny* Saturday afternoon in the park. You can expect brass band classics, new pieces to explore, and tunes sure to have you up and dancing! Why not bring your friends and family for a picnic, take in the beautiful grounds, sit back, and enjoy the music? If you fancy grabbing us an ice cream while you get yours, we won't say no!

How much? Free, not ticketed. Donations welcome.

*Sun not guaranteed.

Sheffield Cathedral

When? Monday 29th August 2022, 3-5pm (with interval)

What? The big event of Band Camp - our course closing concert in the magnificent Sheffield Cathedral. Come along and hear the result of our week of full band rehearsals, sectionals, and workshops, in a full concert programme with something for everyone to enjoy.

Music will include film favourites, sectional features, and a tribute to Queen. This concert is a true celebration of Band Camp, the National Universities Brass Band, and the incredible musicianship of students from across the UK.

How much? Free, donations welcome. You can reserve a free ticket here, to ensure the best seats in the house, or you can just turn up on the day. We would really like you to book in advance so we have an idea of numbers, though...

We’d love to see as many people as possible at these performances. If you feel able to make a donation at either performance towards the cost of Band Camp and UniBrass’ work, we’d be very grateful.
