UniBrass 2023 was hosted by the University of Warwick on Saturday 11th February 2023 at the Warwick Arts Centre, featuring 22 university bands, over 740 students, a pre-results show from the Warwickshire and Coventry Youth Brass Band and a evening gala concert from the world-leading Cory Band!

The Contest

"The most innovative thing to happen to brass banding in 100 years" Brass Bands England

22 bands and over 700 performers from universities and conservatoires across the UK will put on bespoke 20-minute entertainment sets to entertain both the audience and our adjudicators, in an effort to win the UniBrass Trophy and UniBrass Shield.

The contest features some of the most creative brass band performances of the year, before culminating in a results ceremony with an atmosphere like no other, making it an event not to be missed.

The Gala Concert

The Cory Band 

This year's gala concert is from the Cory Band under the direction of Philip Harper. Currently ranked number one in the world, the 2022 European Champions are known for their extremely entertaining and musically outstanding  performances.

​

Since 2012 the band has been conducted by Philip Harper, winning another four European titles, four National titles, three British Open titles and seven Brass in Concert titles. At the 2022 Brass in Concert Contest, Cory was awarded the Audience Entertainment Prize and the prize for the Best Entertainment & Presentation.

​

During the pandemic, Cory has been one of the most active ensembles producing 13 virtual performances which resulted in over 3 million online views. Several of these performances were featured on BBC and ITV news, BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. The band also developed and hosted 2 online Brass Band Championships events which supported bands all over the World and entertained a global audience online. In 2022 the Cory Band were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Venue Information

The Warwick Arts Centre is situated at the heart of the University of Warwick.
There is car parking nearby at many university car parks and the Arts Centre is served by very regular bus services to Coventry and Leamington Spa (12X, 11, U1, U2). 

​

The Shield Section will be held in the Theatre and the Trophy Section held in the Butterworth Hall. Both of these venues are inside the Warwick Arts Centre, with a less than 2 minute walk between them.

​
