UniBrass is pleased to welcome our 4 adjudicators to Bangor University on 2nd February. Anne Crookston, and Alan Morrison will be adjudicating the Trophy Section, whilst Alan Fernie and Sheona White will be making the decisions for the Shield Section.
All of our 2019 adjudication team are members of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA), and so performances will be assessed according to the AoBBA Performance Assessment Criteria which can be found here.
And now to introduce our adjudication team:
Anne Crookston is a Baritone and Oboe player from Glasgow who has experience in conducting, adjudicating and playing in brass bands, and was the principle baritone player for Whitburn band until 2010 before becoming their musical director in 2011. Anne has adjudicated brass bands and soloists all over Europe and in the UK. Anne is currently the head of the Performing Arts Faculty at St Margaret’s Academy in Livingston.
Alan Morrison is a cornet player who has now retired from playing and now adjudicates contests all over the world. Alan has performed both as a soloist and a conductor in Australia, Europe, the UK, and the USA and has given many recitals, masterclasses, and teaching videos to aid the musical education of young brass players. Alan has also won the Fodens Richardson award for his arrangement of ‘Over the Rainbow’
Alan Fernie is a Trombone player who has spent many years teaching brass in schools. Alan has a great amount of experience in conducting brass bands of all levels and has won many awards through doing this. Alan’s name may be familiar to many of you as he has written and arranged a vast amount of music for brass bands which is played all over the world.
Sheona White is a tenor horn player who has played as a guest soloist all over the world. Sheona has played with some of the world’s leading brass bands and has made several CDs showcasing her talent on the tenor horn. Sheona won BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the year in 1996 and since then has been a consultant musician for Yamaha, tutored tenor horn at the University of Salford and RNCM, and most recently been a classroom teacher in Bolton.
