The UniBrass organising committee is delighted to confirm that the 2017 contest will be held on Saturday February 18th. That is just 250 days away! After three successful years at the University of Warwick, the 2017 contest will take place on the University of York’s iconic campus.
Plans are in place to continue the contest’s growth through 2017 and beyond, as well as maintaining established aspects of the event such as educational workshops and gala concert.
David Duncan, Registrar & Secretary of the University of York, said: “I am delighted that York will host the University Brass Band Championships in 2017. We are proud of our brass band tradition and very much look forward to welcoming students from all over the UK. York is a fantastic place to visit and I am sure that the participants will have an excellent time”.
Meanwhile, the 2016 contest has been nominated for the Warwick Student Union award for best event, which celebrates the best of student activities annually. This nomination recognises the commitment of the event to equal opportunities, diversity of attendance, creativity, professionalism, innovation and community engagement on campus, local and national levels. UniBrass 2016 Treasurer Thomas Hicken said: “We are all thrilled with this recognition, as it reflects the values we wanted to bring to organising the weekend.”
Outgoing organising committee chair Alex Parker has also been nominated for individual contribution to student life in the same awards. Those with any involvement in UniBrass are acutely aware of his incredible level of dedication to the event, and this nomination is testament to the inspiration he has provided to both the banding and university communities over the last three years.
Further information about the 2017 contest will be released in the near future. For any queries, please email email@example.com or search for “UniBrass” on Facebook or Twitter and contact us through social media.
